Pleo Robot (USA)

"PLEO is an autonomous robot that displays emotions and interacts with its environment. One of the keys to the proposition was ensuring that PLEO was seen as pet-like consumer electronics product and not a toy. We visualized this on the package by having a key image of PLEO walking away from you on the front on the pack, breaking category conventions and communicating autonomy."

"It's all incredibly cool and hi-tec, though I'd recommend that target group to get a kitten. There are enough homeless kittens and other animals in animal shelters that need you more than a robot does."

"Very cool concept, and CUTE little guy. I can see the benefits to this over real animals in terms of training kids to understand the responsibilities. My fifth grade teacher did that with eggs, then blocks (less breakable), and then Tomagatchis/Giga Pets. It really opens a kid's eyes."
